Robert Plant Previews Upcoming Band of Joy Album

All-star group mixes hard-driving rock, spirituals, roots on covers disc

Last night, Robert Plant dropped in at a dimly lit bar in the East Village near the end of a listening session for his newest album, Band of Joy, and for a few brief moments, admitted he didn’t know what to talk about. “Should I tell you about the Butter Queen and the Plaster Casters in Chicago?” he said, referencing some of the most famous groupies in rock history. “That’s not quite as relevant now as back then — and penicillin is easily available now.”

Holding a microphone in front of a small crowd at New York’s Back Room, the Led Zeppelin frontman quickly changed the subject to the new disc, due September 14th on Rounder Records. Band of Joy follows the intimate, moody vibe of his Grammy-winning collaboration with Alison Krauss, Raising Sand, but the songs are more powerful, like the blazing spiritual classic “Satan, Your Kingdom Must Come Down” and a hard-driving take on “Harm’s Swift Way,” a rare Townes Van Zandt track. Robert Plant - Band Of Joy (September 13th)

(Press Release) Robert Plant is back with his first album since 2007’s six time Grammy Award winning “Raising Sand”.

Picking up where the critically acclaimed roots rock of “Raising Sand” – which sold 700,000 in the UK and 3 million worldwide, scooping the Grammy for Album of the Year – left off, “Band Of Joy” was recorded in Nashville with a stellar cast of musicians.

A timeless plunge into authentic Americana, the album was co-produced by Plant and Nashville legend and guitarist Buddy Miller. “Buddy’s integral to this album, you can hear his taste all over the instrumentation,” enthuses Plant. “Buddy’s zone is beautiful, with a lot of reflections going back into mid-Fifties rockabilly, the singing fishermen and all the great country stuff, along with the soul and R&B from Memphis.” (more…)

Robert Plant Premieres New Album In London

Band Of Joy - album cover (2010)Veteran rocker Robert Plant unveiled his new album project “Band of Joy” in London earlier today (June 1).

Speaking at a reception in events venue Il Bottaccio, Belgravia, which had been specially decorated as a rundown farm for the occasion, Plant introduced himself by saying: “I was in a psychedelic band and there’s never been a more surreal point than this one.”

Prior to the singer’s brief appearance, for which he claimed to have coincidently been passing, guests were treated to the first playback of Plant’s new record — the eagerly awaited follow-up to 2007’s “Raising Sand,” the artist’s multiple Grammy-winning album with Alison Krauss. (more…)
